Nice! Thanks for this.
If the post is yours, there's a broken image below bookmarks.

Thanks for the hint. I've fixed it.

I have a setup that's very similar to this. One "mind hack" I've been a fan of that elfeed makes very easy:
I set my default filter's time range (by customizing elfeed-search-filter) to `@1-week-ago--1-day-ago` so all the headlines I see are at least one day old.
This makes it so I'm not refreshing to see what's happening RIGHT NOW and takes some of the urgency out of the news, making it feel less like being glued to TV and more like picking up the newspaper the next morning. It's not perfect but it helps!

Makes sense! I'll try it out.

> declutter your digital life and reduce your exposure to the attention economy.
By the same token, I find Elfeed to be a good way to keep up with my YouTube subscriptions. I almost never need to suffer youtube.com anymore, especially with [elfeed-tube](https://github.com/karthink/elfeed-tube).

Wow! Thanks for the recommendation. I think the killer feature are the transcripts. I also like the sync between the video playback and current buffer position.
I don't use YouTube as a learning platform that often but elfeed-tube might change my mind (the bookmark functionality which allows you to jump to whatever position in the video is also awesome). I'll definitely give it a try.
I wish every podcast episode would also provide transcripts. If you have any hints regarding podcasts and elfeed, I would be happy to read about it.

Same applies for reddit. I'm still not aware of a reddit client capable of integrating well with elfeed:
* fetch comments
* display them in a nice structured way
* send comments from the same buffer

Great package. Out of curiosity, are you planning to publish that one on melpa anytime soon? I'm using it from straight/nix and considering publishing the nix wrapper to make it easier for people to use over there. Obviously not worth the trouble if melpa is imminent. :)
karthink · 2022-07-01 11:01
MELPA is indeed imminent. :)
I'm also working on adding download links as elfeed enclosures, and the ability to save video clips by highlighting transcript regions. I've wanted a text interface to video forever now, video is so cumbersome to manipulate.
karthink · 2022-07-01 11:04
Unfortunately there's no standard transcript interface available for podcasts. Most popular podcasts also publish on YouTube, so I've taken to subscribing to those feeds for the interactive transcripts.
karthink · 2022-07-01 11:23
I do this too, only the default elfeed-search-filter is chosen randomly from a past week in the last few years. If a significant chunk (> 25%) of the results are "stale", then I take it as a signal that I'm not subscribed to the right feeds.
I also bind keys (`f` and `b`) to page through search results by day.
MmmCurry · 2022-07-01 12:33
Awesome, then I'll keep the extra noise out of nixpkgs and switch over when you're live. Thanks for the fun code!
cyneox · 2022-07-01 13:55
Do you have some elisp code to share regarding mpv and elfeed entries? I just want to know how to play a Youtube video using \`mpv\`. Thanks in advance!
karthink · 2022-07-01 15:40
(defun elfeed-play-with-mpv ()
(interactive)
(start-process "elfeed-mpv" nil "mpv"
(elfeed-entry-link
(or elfeed-show-entry
(elfeed-search-selected t)))))
Will work from both the elfeed search and show buffers. If you want something fancier, like selecting a region of entries and enqueing all videos it needs some tweaking.

I use nnreddit (which runs under Gnus) to read and respond to reddit, doing it right now.
FWIW, I use Gnus for all my "news" needs, including rss / atom feeds, mailing lists, nntp, reddit, etc.

Looks promising, however, each type I start gnus, the nnreddit package will fetch for updates (nnreddit-request-list). That talks like for ever.
Some months ago I've tried dank-mode which was way faster.
karthink · 2022-07-05 07:57
It's on MELPA now. There are two packages: `elfeed-tube` and `elfeed-tube-mpv` (for the mpv integration).

Nice! Thanks for the efforts.
