When I press `Ctrl-.` - I get a strange overlay which takes focus and any characters I type go into that overlay. I can't figure out what keybind is causing this. Any tips?
bojinless · 2022-06-26 03:39
Use `C-h k` followed by `C-.` to have Emacs tell you what function is called by that binding.

tried that - doesn't work because the overlay is grabbing all input. makes me think this may be an ubuntu feature but idk - it doesn't work when I'm typing in firefox for example

Oh how interesting. I see your point.

I thought emacs-ng was vapourwave and no used it but anyway, that is probably the emoji panel thingy GTK has or something similar.
pinazeira · 2022-06-26 03:58
it's look the compose overlay.
jigarthanda-paal · 2022-06-26 03:59
I'm trying it out on a whim. Will check on the emoji panel. Haven't heard of that before.

I had the same issue, it's related to emojis. You can fix it by running the following:
gsettings set org.freedesktop.ibus.panel.emoji hotkey ['']
jigarthanda-paal · 2022-06-26 04:35
thanks - that fixed it!
Trout_Tickler · 2022-06-26 04:52
It is vapourware
VernonGrant · 2022-06-26 05:28
No problem, There's actually a few conflicts between Gnome and Emacs, especially when using `Sexp Commands`. You can take a look at this part of my [.bash\_aliases](https://github.com/VernonGrant/dotfiles/blob/main/.bash_aliases#L46), for more examples. Have a good one!

Why is it vapourware? What promise has it failed to fulfill?
_viz_ · 2022-06-26 09:35
Right, any improvements so far? I'm sort of interested in the webrender backend.

I was under the impression that the activity on emacs-ng died after a short while, much like remacs.
vfclists · 2022-06-26 09:48
As I understand is not a new feature branch going on its own path of development, but to bring additional facilities its users, which they may or may not put to use.
jigarthanda-paal · 2022-06-26 14:29
Lol Chennai da
My Doom Emacs config runs out of the box. I have the js interpreter also working. Think native comp is also enabled by default.
Webrender build threw a segfault at startup so I installed the non-webrender build.
Too early to comment on performance for me. But set up was very smooth for Ubuntu at least.

I guess I lost all reason to try it out (:

It could well have been something wrong on my end lol. I've just set up Ubuntu 22 so it might just be my issue atm

Quail has nothing to do with the popup shown in OP. Adding that link to your reply only adds confusion.
