How do I get to page 2 in the following Doom Emacs menu?

Assuming that the \`which-key\` defaults aren't over-written, C-h should give you instructions.

`SPC C-h j` for next and `SPC C-h k` for back.
tangonov · 2022-06-16 18:33
It was a direct answer. If you install `which-key` without doom, you get instructions as to how to page between options in your minibuffer.

Sleep badly last night?

What is this in Emacs keybindings?
Hezha98 · 2022-06-16 18:56
How can I use this? I can't find it out with which-key Edit: It seems like you can do that in Emacs vanilla using: `C-h j` However, in Emacs Doom, `C-h` or `?` Will launch a "search all keybindings", like explained in [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/pwr7va/comment/heiu542/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3).

On one hand, I am so grateful for frameworks like Doom for bringing you here, on the other hand it can be pretty confusing to start with a configuration that's pretty opinionated. Enjoy Doom! When you're ready, write your own opinions into the software. Or not! This is freedom :)

Thank you, I'm not new to Emacs, though, it has been some years. However, I didn't have enough time to learn Emacs from scratch and create my own configuration, I'm planing to do so. Doom Emacs helped me a lot, I like the way that everything is available and easy to configure, without it, I'm sure I wouldn't be able to use Emacs extensively for my daily life.

I have an unmodified Doom install, and this does not work for me.

Unrelated, but which color theme is that? It looks nice
Oflameo · 2022-06-17 02:37
That is "doom-shades-of-purple".

Now that we have confirmation from /u/hlissner what I want to do now is just patch out the menu in the OP and use the following complete one by default to improve the interface. https://imgur.com/a/dQg1Z3J Edit: I played around with going into the command mode long menu which can be done by inputting "?" from the short menu. That listing doesn't sort as well as it could so if you aren't deep in the menu tree to start out with You can get around 400 options instead of 18 you see by default or the 27 you see under the buffer menu. Feel there is a better compromise we can tease out.
Oflameo · 2022-06-17 03:21
Doom can have a slightly better opinion here. I don't think "buffer (1 of 2)" is technically correct. "?" is not in the default 18 list of options, but I was able to find it from querying the Internet, but the menu was annoying because it looked like there was another page I couldn't get to no matter what I did.

That "menu" is a which-key HUD. You can set `(setq which-key-use-C-h-commands t)` and then it will show you which-key help paging commands, telling you that you can press `C-h`, or whatever is the value of `help-char` variable. If you run `describe-variable help-char`, it probably would say `8`, that is the default value, which stands for `C-h`. Also, `which-key` package includes this not-well-known feature - `which-key-dump-bindings`. It is pretty neat when you need to learn all available keybindings, try it.

I am new to emacs. I started in 2020 because I heard about org-mode. (I had known about emacs a long time, but didn't understand why someone might chose it over a different editor). I tried it with SpaceMacs, which provided evil mode, and I enjoyed using org-mode. in '21 I tried my own config, following System Crafters videos on YouTube, that was fun, but after a while I went to Doom Emacs. I tried it, and thought this is already set up in a way that I mostly like. to be fair, it is mostly still just for org-mode. so my emacs needs are probably very low. I am not yet brave enough to start putting more work into it, but I will get there. I am on Windows, which makes emacs a little slower. I use Windows and Rider (can probably tell you enough about me) for work (been switching between Windows and Linux as a main OS since the 1990s, with a little Mac in the late 2000s-2010s). I have considered moving over to Linux again, especially now with things like Rider that would let me work as normal, but what is holding me at the moment is MSFS 😝 When I have time (which isn't in the foreseeable future), I might set up a dual boot.
CouthlessWonder · 2022-06-17 05:46
it would also be handy if they indicated the "next" binding next tot the (1 of 2) bit...
Oflameo · 2022-06-17 13:42
If you are moving to Linux , your best bet would probably be Fedora Linux. It is cutting edge and the software isn't half fossilized like most everything Debian Based.
CouthlessWonder · 2022-06-19 03:53
I might give that a try some time. The first Linux I ever used was Red Hat (before it split). I tried Debian in the mid 2000s, and just loved it right away. I have used Ubuntu (and use Ubuntu on WSL), I like it because it feels like Debian. I might give Fedora a try. I think I have used Fedora once. It was the first one after they split Red Hat.

https://imgur.com/a/s9AlX1s I figured out how the show the whole help page in one screen. You do it by extending the width of Doom Emacs. I have not figured out how to walk to the next page.
