Hiya,
I recently wanted to contribute to org-modern, which uses text-properties, fringes, and maybe some other tricks to prettify some org elements.
I was wondering if anyone has any other examples of clever tricks or uses of text-properties/SVGs/etc to make interesting visuals in emacs, so that I could draw inspiration from?
Cheers!

I couldn't agree more. I was an elegant user for a long while before recently trying out Nano, which I've ended up customizing minimally and sticking with. A really great example of less-is-more (removing the minor mode lights, for instance, enhances the readability of the things I actually care about). I think Tufte would approve.
Although I'm at best an occasional org-mode user, I think the aesthetics of [org-modern-mode](https://github.com/minad/org-modern) help the experience and -- to my eyes -- look great. Perhaps a decent place from which to draw inspiration.

OK same question....but in Text Mode only. (ssh from vtxxx terminal emulator only, no graphics mode pretending to be text mode) if you using xterm or putty some mouse support is ok.
