Mission control in GNU Emacs

What would be a good algorithm to spread out the images of windows in bottom section? [https://lifeofpenguin.blogspot.com/2022/06/mission-control-in-gnu-emacs.html](https://lifeofpenguin.blogspot.com/2022/06/mission-control-in-gnu-emacs.html) **Edit:** This is an Emacs buffer showing some images in a fullscreen frame. The first line shows images of workspaces. The rest are images of active applications in current workspace. The question is about the algorithm to arrange the active application images to avoid clutter. An example of relatively less clutter is "[Mission control"](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204100) app in Mac.

What's "Mission control"?

A feature of macOS' WM where all windows are scaled down and are arranged next to another. When you then click on one, everyting returns to their real positions and sizes with the selected window in the foreground. It's an extremely handy feature for stacking WMs to have.

I feel like precisely one of the windows in your picture is Emacs (although it appears twice), so this doesn't seem to be something which is "in GNU Emacs", and nor do I have any idea what you're actually asking. Can you rephrase your question? Assume that no one has any context.

Well add that information to your question. Nobody is going to recognise that picture as an Emacs frame, for the obvious reason that it contains no recognisable elements of Emacs anywhere. I have no answer regarding a specific algorithm; but even doing what you're doing now, you could space things more evenly to make better use of the available height.

What are you trying to achieve? 1. Do you want your full screen Emacs screen to show some of the windows on your desktop so you can switch to them by clicking in Emacs? 2. Do you want Emacs to show some of the buffers on your Emacs workspace as graphics so you can switch to them by clicking them?

First option.
