Gmail Access, The Happening

nnreddit-user · 2022-06-07 14:05
Maybe it kicked in worldwide long before, but about an hour ago today is the first I noticed gmail finally rejecting my "Less Secure Apps" authentication. It took me an hour turning on 2FA for all my accounts, then generating so-called App Passwords and plugging them into my dot.msmtprc and dot.mbsyncrc. Sorry if this isn't sufficiently emacs-related.

not only is your post not sufficiently emacs-related, but it's not emacs-related whatsoever.
ntwmbc · 2022-06-07 16:52
Many people use gmail from emacs.

Do you need him to specify that he is using Emacs to read his email?

Many people read news in emacs. Does that make it appropriate to discuss world news on the emacs subreddit?
helpivefallenandican · 2022-06-07 17:25
If they're talking about the mechanism with which they read the news it's appropriate to discuss that IMO.
yashasolutions · 2022-06-07 17:34
just to say, it's been like that for a while, sorry you had to find out this way
markasoftware · 2022-06-07 17:44
Only if that mechanism is emacs-related.
helpivefallenandican · 2022-06-07 18:07
msmtp and mbsybc are *go-to tools* for doing this within emacs.

Define "related."
jsled · 2022-06-08 11:38
Thanks for the "not emacs related" ~~posts~~ reports, folks. But due to the nature of handling email in emacs, lots of folks are using solutions like mbsync, so it's sufficiently on-topic here, imho.
jsled · 2022-06-08 11:39
This has been removed, as posts must relate to emacs.

App password are extremely old and may get deprecated soon. They are already deprecated in many Google Workspace/enterprise environments. The "right" way to authenticate is by using XOAuth.
