Doom emacs simply refuses to focus on macos m1

You say "doom emacs refuses"; have you tried running GUI emacs without loading any config with `emacs -Q`? If that fixes the issue, I would recommend opening an issue on the doom emacs github repo; if it doesn't, I would try installing a different build of emacs, either by compiling it yourself from source or, if you use homebrew, by trying a different package (to my knowledge, `emacs`, `emacs-plus`, and `emacs-mac` are all well-maintained packages, though the latter two are nonstandard packages which require a `brew tap`; if you go this route, I would recommend running `brew info $EMACS_PACKAGE` first to see if there are M1/silicon-related option flags for a given build).

Looks like it's a problem with emacs-mac, even with the \`-Q\` flag. I didn't see any m1 related incompatibilities in brew info. Can't get input into it for the life of me with a keyboard, but the GUI responds to mouse clicks. Even after clicking, and getting mouse input to work, it doesn't seem to ever register the emacs window as a window, because the bar on the top left always has the name of whatever app I was typing in last.

Try reinstalling emacs, maybe with different compile flags.
