I try to migrate my `init.el` from my Linux (Debian 11) Emacs 27.1 to its Windows 10 pendant.
It nearly works but the Windows Emacs allways ask me for a "font installation directory" when I start Emacs.
```
; 'all-the-icons-install-fonts' is called in GUI mode if it is needed
(use-package all-the-icons
:init
(when (and (not (member "all-the-icons" (font-family-list)))
(window-system))
(all-the-icons-install-fonts t))
)
```
Special fonts (modline, dired, etc) are not shown in Windows. In Linux they work.
Any idea what could be wrong here?
Sidenote: On Linux the Emacs runs in daemon-mode. On Windows it is a standalone.

As I know, when you download the fonts you have to install them. Otherwise windows cannot determine fonts location (because downloaded fonts are not in 'Fonts' directory) and emacs cannot find the font. Look at [here](https://github.com/domtronn/all-the-icons.el#installation=).
> For Windows, this function will prompt for a download directory for you to install them manually.

Thanks a lot. Now I understand what "manually" meant here.
I need to use the Windows Explorer navigating to the folder where the font files where downloaded in, mark them and right click "Install fonts".

Yep; windows has an install fonts option.
Linux and unix with popular desktop environments have a standard user and system dir you can drop the fonts into for them to be found (and you can do other tricks of course.)
Mac you have to use FontBook built in app if I recall right, to install the font
