Should I use melpa-stable version of ess 18.10.2 released in Nov-2018 or should I use the melpa version of ess?

Just migrated to emacs 28.1 and wanted to know if ess release of 2018 is still suitable in 2022.

Please just try them out and see if it works. By trying to save yourself time, you're asking others to waste theirs answering a question you can answer yourself.

I’m using ess 18.10.2 and it works for me. I haven’t tried any other version.

I’d say use whatever’s latest. 2018 was a long time ago so there’s been progress made on the development.
