Hey Reddit! I just published v2.2.0, a huge update to Hass, a package that enables you to control your Home Assistant instance from within Emacs! The previous released introduced the dashboard, but this one takes it to a new level. Every widget is highly customizable. You can format it to make it look pretty, change the icon, or disable the action so it's only informational. This was the ultimate vision for the package when I first started. I've learned a lot and I hope you find it useful. **Release notes** * Added fancy dashboard configuration! This release takes dashboards to the level I originally dreamed of. Every widget now has additional properties to configure them however you wish. Checkout the [Dashboard layout section](https://github.com/purplg/hass/blob/master/README.org#dashboard-layout) and the new screenshot in the README for more info. * Added ability to use functions to define widgets in layout declaration. * Improved `hass--states` to use a hashtable instead of an alist. This is technically faster, but it was mostly done to support Emacs 25 more easily. Might be noticeably faster on older machines. * Deprecated `:name` widget property in favor of a clearer `:label`. They currently do the same exact thing. * Fixed entity state not getting updated properly when using a custom `:state` * Fixed dashboard window appearing multiple times in some cases * Fixed Emacs 25 and 26 compatibility issues.

Thanks! I added some extra bits just for the screenshot to show what's possible (hence the colorful light widget), but you can make yours look cool too 馃槑

Saw this title on my mostly German-language front page and thought yup that figures.

u/purplug "Hass" is a rather unfavourable name. [Its meaning in several languages is 'hatred' or 'spite'.](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Hass)

Yeah I learned after the initial release. I've been resistant to change, but after the many comments I've received about it, maybe I should. I was thinking Hassel

Several usually means more than a couple. Actually there is only really one language listed there - German, as Pennsylvania German is a variant or pidgeon of standard German. Unfortunately hass is firmly embedded as an abbreviation of home assistant due to historical usage by the developers, even if they have moved away from it more recently.
