How to debug emacs crash after the fact?

Inexplicable and quite suddenly Emacs will sometimes just crash on me. How to get some insight into why? I know about emacs profile, is that logging somewhere so i might be able to see what happened in the final moments at least?

any idea where this goes if i'm using spacemacs and ubuntu? I can't seem to find it at the listed location. Is a way to know for sure? Some variable thats set?
