Greek letter lambda looks abnormal

MrPezevenk · 2022-05-11 21:58
When I write Greek in my doom emacs, the greek letter lambda (λ) looks abnormally large, much larger than the other letters. I'm not sure why that's happening or how to fix it. I tried a couple other fonts but they didn't fix the issue. Does anyone have any idea what I should do?

You are probably using Doom, which overlays all the fonts from domtronn/all-the-icons.el over your font. This is problematic, because some non-Latin letters (λ and Я, maybe others) are replaced with similarly-looking logos. (won't be fixed in Doom) Just disable all-the-fonts in `packages.el`: (package! all-the-icons :disable t) and use an appropriate Nerd Font [1] to have fancy chars. [1] https://www.nerdfonts.com/

Yes, I am using doom, I mentioned it in my question... I tried adding this line in my packages.el, but it didn't change anything... Lambda still looks weird. There is multiple all-the-icons packages that autocomplete suggests, I don't know which one I should disable. There doesn't seem to be a single all-the-icons package, it's a massive list.

If you put the cursor on the character you can do ```M-x describe-char``` to get a lot of information about the character at point. It might tell you what overlay youre looking at or at the very least where the font is coming from

Autocomplete suggests variables, not packages. Plain `all-the-icons` is the correct name. Try running `doom sync` and restarting Emacs.

Οοοh that makes sense. I did that and it worked great, thanks!

Why do they make lambda look funny instead of using codepoints from PUA?

No idea. Also no idea why Doom uses that as a modifier on the default face.
