Markdown mode preview converts straight quotes to smart quotes

I have some text with single straight quotes, common in python programming. During the markdown preview command `C-c C-c p` command, I get an error. I then select the utf-8 conding system but the output html is some garbled text. >These default coding systems were tried to encode text > >in the buffer ‘\*markdown-output\*’: > >(iso-latin-1-dos (1241 . 8216) (1244 . 8217) (1250 . 8216) (1253 > >. 8217) (1259 . 8216) (1262 . 8217)) > >However, each of them encountered characters it couldn’t encode: > >iso-latin-1-dos cannot encode these: ‘ ’ ‘ ’ ‘ ’ Original: Counter({'AA': 2, 'AB': 1, 'AC': 1}) Output: Counter({‘AA’: 2, ‘AB’: 1, ‘AC’: 1})

Why are you calling that command on Python code?

It's a code block in a markdown document.
