Starting from a few days ago, elfeed buffer started showing \`\\342\\200\\230\` like below:

What could be the reason for this? And what is this thing called if I am to Google it?

Those are Unicode codes for characters eMacs is not displaying. Many things can cause that I suppose. I also have this issue in some of my machines, usually I can fix it by setting LC env vars or something like that. I’m interested in what other people will say here though

You cropped out the modeline so I'm just guessing here but I think your buffer is not in utf8. Try C-X RET r utf-8 .

Must be some UTF characters and the way your emacs is set up. I get this:
2022-04-28 Balloon detects first signs of a ‘sound tunnel’ in the sky Hacker News: Front Page (hacker,news)
My modeline says 'UTF-8' but I forget how that gets there!!
By copy-pasting that line into hexdump, you can see that those are not normal ' characters:
```
$ echo '2022-04-28 Balloon detects first signs of a ‘sound tunnel’ in the sky Hacker News: Front Page (hacker,news)
' | hexdump -C
It's UTF-8. I've updated the screenshot in the post. This is WSL2 + Vcxsrv. I remember I installed a major Windows update recently (21H2?), could that be related?
Seems elfeed database is corrupt. deleting the `~/.elfeed` folder "fixed' it, but that means I lost my feed items downloaded in th epast.
