Last year, mac-metal support has been introduced in the awesome emacs-mac port by Mituharu. However, soon after introducing this change, Mituharu disabled it by default. Previous thread discussing it can be found [Emacs Mac with Metal Support](https://www.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/mhdjxb/macos_emacs_with_metal_support/). I wonder what's the status of this feature now? Is there perhaps some benchmarks we can run?

I haven't seen any updates in the changelog. The last update was from 2021-03-27:
The configure option --with-mac-metal is disabled by default.
I originally turned it on because it lowered the CPU load.
But I recently realized that it was caused by its lower frame rate.
M1 Mac accomplishes 60fps with or without Metal even with large
frames, and the CPU load does not get an advantage from the use of
Metal there.
You might try it both ways and see if you notice a difference. Someone in the linked thread posted a "scroll up" benchmark to try. I ended up leaving it off, as I didn't find any improvement.

Agreed. I find both versions to be much slower than doom on Linux by a huge margin, which is rather sad
