Started using EMACS a few days ago, and every time I open emacs, the terminal opens up and I have no idea why. I searched for a bit but there isn't anything remotely close to what I am looking for so I was thinking that it's actually normal. Help would be appreciated, thanks!

[this is how it looks when I start up emacs](https://preview.redd.it/mqtp4lh19nv81.png?width=1687&format=png&auto=webp&s=a1fc79eb55ec66804a5d89418601bb38e92d703f)

On MS Windows you need to use `runemacs.exe`. This is mentioned on the [download page](https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/download.html).

huh so it seems that the terminal is gone, even though I did same thing again. I had already been using runemacs.exe but I think I know what was wrong?
I had a problem with a UWP app that opened the terminal with an error every time I opened runemacs.exe so I uninstalled it. I already did this before and thought the terminal would just keep opening regardless of the error message. ig if there aren't any error messages the terminal won't open.
Gonna redownload the UWP app(Okular pdf) and try once more. Thanks for the help anyways!

After installing, I run emacs from the start menu and then I pin the icon to the task bar. Then I edit that icon's properties and change the "Target" to `C:\Program Files\Emacs\x86_64\bin\runemacs.exe`.

Ok it turns out even if I run runemacs.exe and pin it via the icon that shows up on the taskbar, it pins emacs.exe NOT runemacs.exe.
I just found my taskbar folder(inside User/Appdata/Roaming/Microsoft/InternetExplorer/Quick Launch/User pinned/taskbar) and changed the app shortcut to runemacs.exe manually and it seemed to have worked.
Honestly I shouldn’t have taken or spent this long on such a minor problem lmao
