To find (via regexp) lines starting with one or more asterisks I'd come up with this pattern in Python:
"^\*+ "
In Emacs I have to use double backslashes like so:
"^\\*+ "
But it does not work in this line:
(string-match "^\\*+ " "** This is a heading")
What am I missing?

Apparently it worked because it returns "0", which is the index of the string beginning with the match.
