Mu4e unwanted focus changes

dwdwdan · 2022-04-17 14:26
I've just set up mu4e in vanilla emacs. By default, if I have a view buffer and a headers buffer open, and I press `j` to look at the next email in the headers buffer emacs automatically moves my cursor to the view buffer. I see why this would be useful for some, but for me it's a significant annoyance. Is there a way to disable this behaviour? i.e. so that it changes the view buffer but leaves my focus on the header buffer

Try C-j

That does the job, many thanks

I didn't find a config-option that achieves this. But are you aware of the fact, that almost all keybindings of the headers-buffer, are also available from the view-buffer? So the cursor doesn't need to be in the headers-buffer to control the headers-buffer.

I knew this was the case in general, but obviously `j` is an exception to this rule (as it's used to move down the email itself). I wasn't previously aware of `C-j` to do the same thing
