Anyone using Emacs on NixOS?

I'm just wondering why it's not getting updated to version 28? Usually NixPkgs is pretty fresh, but there's no activity. Something I'm missing? Do you run Emacs using a flake instead?

I just manage my nixos/macos/home configs via this flake now. More to keep adding but its pretty neat-o. [https://github.com/nix-community/emacs-overlay](https://github.com/nix-community/emacs-overlay) Its nice cause now all my use-package(s) are also now in nix with the overlay and for the lock file I have a github action to update that. So i can always go back to a working config. And I can use the jit version easy peasy lemon whatever, so its nice and fast.

There are a few good auto-formatters available for nix source files if you're interested - `nixfmt` and `nixpkgs-fmt` are two such options.

Heh, sorry. Apparently GitHub indentation display is partially CSS or JS based - when I first viewed it on mobile it was very haphazard and mostly left-aligned, but that was a visual bug after I reloaded. Sorry for the needless comment.

It's also not yet in Guix, at least for 28.1 (a patch is currently pending). `emacs-next` seems to package 28.0.50. You might be able to port it from Guix's patches.

I’m on 28, it’s right in the docs. Emacs has like 8 overlays, you need to include the overlays and then the rest is history. Works on both nixOS and macOS.

What do you mean no activity? A PR with emacs 28 was just merged to master.
