I've seen vscode subtly displaying git info on the current line like: "xzy, 3 months ago ● Commit message" on the side and wished I could replicate that on emacs. Has anybody implemented that on emacs or know of any configuration that I can look into?

Assuming you're using Magit, look here: https://magit.vc/manual/magit/Blaming.html
Also see this discussion on git blame information in Emacs: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/15460550/git-blame-with-commit-details-in-emacs

I have found the Magit display borderline unreadable. Certainly nowhere near as good as the subtle display on vscode.
I saw this as a Magit user who is otherwise delighted.

https://github.com/redguardtoo/vc-msg
"If Git is used and partial of the line is selected, the correct commit for the selected text is displayed."
I don't think vscode or any other ide has this feature.

It's not borderline at all. It's an unreadable mess.
The heatmap in vc-annotate is amazing and makes finding culprits incredibly easy. Magit is a far cry from this.

I should check out that heatmap! Thanks.
