Another emacs manual. V18. December 1986.

I'd be interested in anyone has an earlier edition. Also, anyone know what that scan artifact is on the left edge?

Aww that’s exactly the version I have running in my old PowerMac with System 8. Wish I could get my hands on a scan of that book.

I was using v18 in 1988 on a Prime 750 mini. Nice find.

As I recall it used a plastic spline to bind the pages. I first learned emacs back then and it was painful.

How different is it to the current version?

Being used to modern Emacs I could barely move around let alone set up text formatting the way I wanted it. No viper-mode. No word wrapping. I printed out an old quick reference sheet for v18 to help me get started.
