Hi guys, has anyone tried successfully to get magit and [https://github.com/wilfred/difftastic](https://github.com/wilfred/difftastic) working together?
I thought that would be pretty straight forward thinking that magit just communicated with git via shell ....
thanks in advance!

mm I tried once and it didn't work for me. I seem to remember because magit doesn't allow external diff tools, but I may be wrong. I am pretty sure Wilfred uses it with Emacs though!

I don't think so — I asked wilfredh about it — https://twitter.com/_wilfredh/status/1488399551870373888

Maybe https://gitlab.com/ideasman42/emacs-diff-ansi could add support for it

You might look into https://github.com/dandavison/magit-delta

Does difftastic produce standard diffs? If not, Magit wouldn't be able to parse them.
The answer appears to be a clear "no". From their own documentation:
> Difftastic output is intended for human consumption, and it does not generate patches that you can apply later. Use diff if you need a patch.

Being able to toggle between difftastic's human view and diff view would be nice though.
Then all the commands only use the diff view.

I use magit-delta, does someone compare between delta and difftasic?

Here is a blog post from 2022-08-01 that gives code (but doesn't wrap it up in a `.el` file, unfortunately). I haven't tried it yet.
