Hi,
do you have or know about a windows build where the new cairo support is working well ?
I like the github: "emacs-build" releases but I'm maybe a lazy and I wouldn't like to built a new one by me or ...
so if you did it and you can share that with me, I will be happy :)

Maybe you can request /u/mplscorwin for a build that supports cairo? He runs a [site](https://corwin.bru.st/emacs-28/) with a bunch of Emacs builds for Windows, including native-compiled ones.

AFAICT cairo is only supported when building with X11.
./configure.ac:3316:HAVE_CAIRO=no
./configure.ac-3317-if test "${HAVE_X11}" = "yes"; then
./configure.ac-3318- if test "${with_cairo}" != "no"; then
./configure.ac-3319- CAIRO_REQUIRED=1.8.0
./configure.ac-3320- CAIRO_MODULE="cairo >= $CAIRO_REQUIRED"
./configure.ac-3321- EMACS_CHECK_MODULES(CAIRO, $CAIRO_MODULE)
./configure.ac:3322: if test $HAVE_CAIRO = yes; then
./configure.ac-3323- AC_DEFINE(USE_CAIRO, 1, [Define to 1 if using cairo.])
./configure.ac-3324- CFLAGS="$CFLAGS $CAIRO_CFLAGS"
./configure.ac-3325- LIBS="$LIBS $CAIRO_LIBS"
In principle, I would be open packaging other versions but in the case of cairo I think there's lower-level heavy lifting needed first. I'm afraid I haven't dug into this to know what (if any) benefit using cario with a native Windows build of Emacs would bring.
u/zsome: can you share more about why you want cario? Also, I'm assuming you are after a Windows native build (e.g. not planning to run under WSL/WSL2 or Cygwin) so please let me know if I've misunderstood.
EDIT: fixing markdown for the "code" snippet

I'm interested in because I use laptop monitor with scaling and my desktop one without scaling in win10 . The font is ugly and if I know well the Cairo support can fix it. I use an emacs's Linux version with Cairo because the emacs with Cairo mode have becamed a real GTK application and the GTK is supporting the Wayland natively and now my emacs is a real "Wayland" app.
Now I have a small elisp function which one can change my font what I use when emacs is running on my company's laptop monitor but in this case I can't use the scaling for the other apps because the font is ugly in emacs... And this script is a dependency of course...
So I'm just curious and i don't curious enough to build it myself :)
Sorry

What you’re looking for is the pgtk (“pure GTK”) support for emacs, not Cairo. Pgtk has been merged into the development head but isn’t part of the upcoming emacs 28 release — it’s not stable enough for that yet.
Since the upcoming release is getting most of the attention (we’re on rc3 right now), you’re more likely to find pre-built bundles of emacs 28 than 29, but the latter should work under both Windows and GNU/Linux.
tl;dr: the thing you want is called ‘pgtk’, and it’s included in the emacs release **after** the next (upcoming) one.

I think pgtk isn't going to be compatible with any Windows native build. Are you suggesting OP use WSL+Gnome and then build the pgtk version from trunk?

Ah, yes; I see now that I misread something while researching: the pgtk port does work on windows+wsl, and that includes with native-comp, but not the "windows native" port. Mea culpa.
