I've grepped the soucre-code for `mouse-face`, but have been unable to find a user-interface to conditionally suppress the `mouse-face` at point while dragging with `down-mouse-...` Other than going into the Lisp code and resetting the text-properties at each applicable buffer point, is there a way to temporarily suppress the the mouse-over face while dragging?

Try this one
(add-hook 'pre-command-hook
(lambda ()
(setq mouse-highlight nil)))
(add-hook 'post-command-hook
(lambda ()
(setq mouse-highlight t)))
The Elisp manual seems to be lacking the `mouse-highlight` description.

Thank you -- the variable `mouse-highlight` is indeed the solution. For my use case, let-binding that variable inside my custom dragging function is sufficient. Greatly appreciated!
