Just wanted to say: I wish you all the luck in the world this works ok!
I had trouble with `posframe` approaches (e.g. `vertico-posframe`) in the past. Nothing I could pin down, just at some point after days Emacs would not respon during posframe display anymore.
I really hope you figure out something that works better :)

I've had a good time with `vertico-posframe` so far. Just to put a good word in for it :)
Not quite as pretty as what OP is doing. But works nice and quite good for not having to dart my eyes down to the modeline.

I always have trouble and buggy behavior with posframe. Hope to see people make posframe real stable with marginalia and vertico

It's not working in my case... nano-subtle , nano-faded not defined... I don't know where these variables were defined :(

try adding `(require 'nano-theme)` (and you might need to install it)
