sensible.emacs.d - Sensible and minimal starting Emacs configuration.

[https://github.com/jjuliano/sensible.emacs.d](https://github.com/jjuliano/sensible.emacs.d) This Emacs configuration aims to be uncluttered, clean, vanilla, and practically useful for any day-to-day tasks. It only has the absolute necessary configurations, tailored to be minimal w/ vanilla keybindings, practical and useful. It is easy to add any additional feature and package later if you need one. There are several reasons for keeping the configuration to a bare minimum, one is that it’s easier to keep track of all the packages and keystrokes. It is better to have a setup that you use 90% of the time, than having a cluttered setup that will just make it difficult to keep up with gazillions of preinstalled packages that usually end-up being unused. This configuration tries not to be a one-size-fits all configuration, but it tries to be an Emacs configuration that suits most of the developers, and I keep it personable, clean, easy and sensible.

From the way you describe it I was expecting a single init.el with maybe a few hundred lines of elisp. That's a big 'ol repo there.

I really appreciate that you are sharing this work with the community, but this repo is not presenting what I would think of as a "vanilla" setup. The closest "vanilla" and "sane" recent emacs setup (i.e. besides Prelude) I've see is [Rational Emacs](https://github.com/SystemCrafters/rational-emacs), which has an early-init.el, init.el, and possible user config file(s), and actively tries to avoid using external packages. If you're going to advertise "vanilla" don't use so many(!) external packages. In reality you're generating something closer to spacemacs or doom in terms of complexity. Nothing wrong with that, but it isn't a "close to the metal" or "vanilla" experience. That aside -- I think it's great you've made this contribution! There can't be enough easy/helpful avenues into writing an Emacs config.

This is the opposite of minimalism lol.

Am I the only that thinks that GNU Emacs out of the box is already a sensible starting configuration? (I wouldn't call it minimal, though!)

There are least two of us...
