If I want to execute a program via Emacs, I use "!" followed by "vlc &" if point is on a video file in Dired, and "mupdf &" if point is on a pdf.
If I want to launch an AppImage program (Logseq in this case), how would I do that from within Emacs?
At the very least I would like to be able to "background" the spawned process (&), so I can continue using Emacs. Even better would be to also "disown" the process. (I don't know to do this at the moment with "! vlc &" either)

Use a shell, e.g. eshell, shell mode.
./something.AppImage
If you don’t want to use a shell, maybe you can try async shell command.

Thanks. shell works fine, bit slow, but I'll probably write a macro to make it efficient. async shell command didn't work.

> async shell command didn't work
Example:
(defun elza-browser ()
"Elza Browser"
(interactive)
(call-process-shell-command "~/.local/bin/ElzaBrowser.Setup.AppImage" nil 0))
Run elza-browser with `M-x elza-browser RET`
