Ham-z · 2022-03-16 21:50
Im working on my costume emacs configuration and i want it to be as lightweight as possible so i need a lightweight base to start from i dont use anything in it other then org mode evil mode and some of the basic packages

I recommend [momacs](https://www.github.com/progfolio/momacs).

Just install emacs without any packages? I am unsure what you are asking.
jsled · 2022-03-16 22:30
You don't need a "distribution"; just install emacs and add whatever packages you want.
Ham-z · 2022-03-16 22:31
Yeah ik but it still feels too Much i want something closer to vim/neovim than emacs I was a vim user for the last 4 years so im used to a minimalist Editor

There is something that i dont understand when i tried using bare bonus emacs it was slower than doom emacs so my question is there is a distribution that is less blooded then doom and is fast as much as it is

Use vim? I'm still having trouble grammatically parsing your request.

I was in the same position as you (was a hardcore vim user) and tried doom and spacemacs thinking setting up all the nice evil and related features would be too difficult with default emacs, but it's actually really simple: https://youtu.be/hoP4I9ounyQ

The problem is that i cant not anymore i really love too things about emacs one is org mode and two is its documentation its much better in my eyes than vi

Also emacs doesn't load any of those packages you don't use unless you ask it to. It's sort of like having programs in your /bin directory.
Ham-z · 2022-03-16 22:47
I will keep this in mind i didn't know they work like this i will see if thats true will remove everything
BettaGeorge · 2022-03-16 22:47
Dude, buy some commas.
TheFrenchPoulp · 2022-03-16 23:20
Pretty sure that by bare bones you actually meant "my custom configuration"; which you should fix if you use as few packages as you mentioned but still find slow
Ham-z · 2022-03-16 23:23
As im seeing from the comments im getting i think that the problem is in my configuration i will remake it and try again hopefully its better this time
wargxs · 2022-03-16 23:28
If it is about startup time -> emacs —daemon and emacsclient ; problem solved.
FrozenOnPluto · 2022-03-16 23:33
emacs -q Starts without using your config, so that will tell you if its your config or not Many of us build up from vanilla not down from Doom etc. I’m an oldbie been using Emacs for decades and can run without a config or csn use my own custom one, all good. (My custom one checks for which machine its running on to set a role, then loads packages for which roles its in. So can cut it down when run ing on a raspberry pi pr when run ing on a latest and greatest PC..) Half the fun can be tinkering with your config :)

I’m betting what you mean by “lightweight” is actually fast startup. Run the emacs daemon and it won’t matter how many packages you use; emacsclient pops a frame in a blink.

> bare bonus emacs it was slower than doom emacs what was slower? any numbers, profiler reports?

Makes me wonder, **"What's the darkest Emacs distribution?"**...
