* Buy milk
...
* Tasks
** Buy/Return
I want `* Buy milk` under the `** Buy/Return` heading. Then the `C-c C-w` org-refile completion looks like
Standard Tasks/Buy\/Return/
That can get very confusing esp if you have a few slash alternatives in one or more headlines. If I were given the choice between reserving the slash char for my human-readable org headlines vs. used in the completion tree syntax, I'd rather the completion tree syntax look more like this:
Standard Tasks%Buy/Return%
or perhaps:
Standard Tasks|Buy/Return|
But if I have to live with it, I guess I could use the pipe char
* Buy milk
...
* Tasks
** Buy|Return
Then
Standard Tasks\Buy|Return\

I looked in the code, specifically `org-refile` library and the `/` is not easily customizable. I suggest that it is you that should use another alternation symbol, maybe `\` or `|`, `-` or that you just ignore the "escaping" `\/` and focus on the actual words. BTW it's not related to IDO, it's how org represents hierarchy, i.e. that's how candidates are presented to any completion system.

Thanks, yeah I figured as much. It'd be like asking bash to change the slash dir symbol. An interesting solution expressed on stackexchange was that one could use a font that changed the look of that symbol, but that's clearly not advisable because slash is ubiquitous for directory syntax, and it would mess up other legitimate use of the forward slash. I guess it's best that I just "deal with it" haha.
Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to research and answer this for me!
