In EXWM, what is the benefit of workspaces over tab-bar-mode?

I know that workspaces by default restrict X windows to a specific workspace, but I have always disabled that function anyway. I'm just using tab-bar-mode right now but is there any actual reason to use workspaces instead?

I think that workspaces are needed to make multi-monitor setups work.

They multiplex space like tabs, but don't take up any of your display to do it. I don't much like tabs.

Tabs don't take up any of your display either. With tab-bar-history-mode (included with Emacs), I find them pretty useful.

How do they not take up any of the display?

It's possible to disable the display of tabs in the tab-bar, but keep using them as window configurations. You can test it by enabling tab-bar, creating a bunch of different window layouts in different tabs, then disabling the mode : `tab-bar-switch-to-tab` is available whether the tab-bar-mode is enabled or not. The name of the feature is quite unfortunate, as the provided feature is in fact window configurations, with the possibility to add a bar at the top that reflects them.

Yep, this is pretty much what I do. I really only use it over workspaces so that everything works the same in exwm as it does if i am not using exwm
