I'm a long time vim user that converted (mostly to Emacs). I'm to the point where I only use vim in a few situations (quick edits, specific servers), and I've recreated my old vim config in emacs:
* Buffer management-ivy and fzf
* evil keys everywhere
* surround.vim-evil-surround
* vim commentary-evil-commentary
* persistent undo-undo-fu
* web-mode/php-mode
* lots of keybindings like
`(evil-define-key 'normal 'global (kbd "<leader><SPC>") 'ivy-switch-buffer)`
`(evil-define-key 'normal 'global (kbd "<leader>e") (lambda() (interactive)(find-file "~/.emacs.d/init.el")))`
`(evil-define-key 'normal 'global (kbd "<leader>ww") (lambda() (interactive)(find-file "~/notes.org")))`
`(evil-define-key 'normal 'global (kbd "DEL" ) #'switch-to-last-buffer)`
I'm pretty satisfied with the workflow, but then I was satisfied with a pretty similar one in vim before. What stuff should I leverage that makes emacs superior to vim? Don't get me wrong, elisp is a million times more pleasant than Vimscript and that alone makes a big difference. Oh, I do use magit and org already so maybe I have my answer. Curious if there are other vim converts out there who have words of wisdom on what else to try in emacs.

Hello fellow convert.
My journey from vim to emacs was pretty similar to yours. Moving my email workflow over to emacs was very useful for me. I used mu4e.

Depends what you use Emacs for. Besides org-mode as you mentioned, I really like the writable modes. Ex wdired which allows you to freely edit dired-buffers, even over tramp.

If anyone has tips I would happily take them too. The biggest hurdle I have that keeps me coming back to vim every time is the quickfix and local lists. Most other stuff either evil or some other package/built in functionality does the job just fine, but I have had a really hard time finding replacements for those. I know that compile mode/grep mode kind of does it, but unless I missed something it doesn't have the history functionality, that I do use a decent amount. The local list being bound to a single window is also something I haven't found a good solution for.
Finally will have to say, learning lisp through emacs is a pretty fun little thing, very nice language to work with, at least for now with only doing small things.

Oh that's a good point about quickfix. I do end up going back to vim for that sort of thing too I guess. In emacs I did setup [https://github.com/dajva/rg.el](https://github.com/dajva/rg.el) which gives you [https://rgel.readthedocs.io/en/2.1.0/usage.html#results-buffer](https://rgel.readthedocs.io/en/2.1.0/usage.html#results-buffer) to look through results but I've never tried to do something like cnext/cfdo/colder/cnewer in emacs.

Org roam is pretty cool.

* TRAMP for sudo editing and remote editing (or a dedicated package)
* Using emacs as a daemon (quick edits and who cares about startup time)
* Vertico: completion system
* Marginalia: Rich annotations in the minibuffer
* Consult: Useful search and navigation commands
* Embark: Minibuffer actions and context menu
* Orderless: Advanced completion style

Am doing the opposite, funnily enough. Mainly just want org mode and completion like you can get with M-x + incremental fuzzy search.
