EDIT: THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN ANSWERED. (github questions moved to the github subreddit [in this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/github/comments/t6w4km/why_doesnt_github_search_return_the_file_that/?)).
___
I'm just trying to get "my feet wet" a bit in browsing elisp and github. I'm guessing it's a local variable, being used only right there? That's **Question1**.
**Question2:** So also, why does my search on github not find the reference for "ctf" in org.el? On github, I've set the repository to
> emacs-mirror
mirrored from git://git.sv.gnu.org/emacs.git
Then in the upper left search text box, I do a "search in this repository" for `ctf`. It only gives me two files:
test/lisp/epg-resources/seckey.asc
doc/misc/mh-e.texi
**Question3:** Why doesn't it also list org.el? Am I misunderstanding that search function? I was looking for any other references to "ctf" in the code base.
So that's my final question (**Question4**), is how do I find all occurrences of something in a repository using github web interface?

Use Emacs to search its source, rather than github.

Good idea. I did some searching and... rgrep is very easy to use! Thanks!
I'd still like to know what the heck is going on with github, as that's generally useful in the broader constellation of emacs related systems.

I find that the github search is just awful. It rarely gives me all the files that matches. I just use ripgrep for stuff like that

This probably the wrong place to ask questions 2–4 since they seem to be about possible bugs in GitHub's search function and not related to Emacs in any way.
The answer to Question 1 is what you thought, it is a local variable in the function `org-agenda-file-to-front` defined in the `let` form right at the top of the function. My guess is that `ctf` stands for "Current True Filename", since it is the result of calling `file-truename` on the name of the file visited by the current buffer.

they are owned by Microsoft, which are known to break things or never get features right in the first place (after copying them) ... ;)

Here is the answer from /u/simonw :
https://docs.github.com/en/search-github/searching-on-github/searching-code#considerations-for-code-search has the answer:
Only files smaller than 384 KB are searchable.
https://github.com/emacs-mirror/emacs/blob/master/lisp/org/org.el is 815KB
