Feedback appreciated. I am new to writing emacs packages for others. So far most of mine have just been written for my own use. If people find this useful, I will post to melpa.

**Motivation**:
I like emacs bookmarks but I rarely want to create something so permanent to just hold my place when moving between directories (e.g., when copying and pasting files between directories; see [dired-copy-paste](https://github.com/jsilve24/dired-copy-paste) for more on copying and pasting in dired). This package lower the barrier to keeping your place by implementing registers storing a directory and making it easy to jump back later. Think of these registers like temporary bookmarks that don't persist between sessions (just like evil registers).

See the Readme for more details.

Figured there would be others. Not sure but do either of those deal with dired buffers? Also seems like they both have a bit of a different interface and I prefer the evil register like marking.

Yes, you can bookmark Dired buffers.
With Bookmark+ a Dired bookmark records and restores your current Dired state: ‘ls` switches, which files & dirs are marked, which subdirectories are inserted, and which (sub)directories are hidden.

What is wrong with [Emacs registers](https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/emacs/Registers.html)?
You can [easily save position](https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/emacs/Position-Registers.html) in a Dired buffer and then jump back. It even remembers cursor position. Built into Emacs, no external package needed.
Besides positions, you can also save other stuff and recall it back when needed, like a clipboard, selections, window configurations, file names, etc.

Does that still work if the dired buffer has been killed? Since it’s not a file visiting buffer.

Don't know, never tried. Try it and see.

The notion of registers is interesting. Never tried with built-in Emacs registers. Cool idea.
The single-letter mnemonics could help quickly open a common target (say: where you file invoices) in a split and then quickly have dired DWIM copy stuff over.

`user-error: That register’s buffer no longer exists`
No :(

Yes! I just saw that the other day. Was just thinking about ways of interfacing the two. I think they are similar but provide complementary functionality.

I don't know what you are using to manager your Emacs packages, but it is seems like your setup is configured to download Dired as an external package. Dired is included as a built-in package that comes with Emacs. You should probably configure your setup, so it does not think that dired should be downloaded as an external package.
