Why was "Emacs Lisp Cheat Sheet" on https://wikemacs.org/ gone?
whatacold · 2022-02-26 04:11
I saved an elisp cheat sheet (https://wikemacs.org/wiki/Emacs_Lisp_Cheat_Sheet), which helped me
a lot when I want to write some elisp code after my memory with the
APIs blurred. It organizes the APIs into categories nicely, so I can
quickly find out the exact APIs that I want, and then I look up them
inside Emacs using Help, Info, etc.
But the page was gone last year (I can't remember the exact date),
the content was gone, although the URL was still reachable. What a
pity!
Do you know why it was gone? I didn't find an alternative to it after
that. If you know the maintainer or
maintainers, would you like to tell him/her/them about the issue?
Thanks!
If you were also like me, the good news is that we can visit its
backup on Wayback Machine,
https://web.archive.org/web/20201202092534/https://wikemacs.org/wiki/Emacs_Lisp_Cheat_Sheet,
thanks to the Internet Archive!

Very helpful. Would you consider adding it to [EmacsWiki.org](https://www.emacswiki.org/)?

I am afraid it's inappropriate to copy the content and paste it elsewhere.
Anyway, we can still find it on the Internet Archive.

Should be fine.

I suspect that WikEmacs has gone the way of the dodo and is no longer maintained. There are lots of spam pages, looking at https://wikemacs.org/wiki/Special:AllPages it seems that more than 90% are spam.
Looking at the revision log, Holocronweaver tried to keep the spam in check by using an extension that detects and deletes spam, but it deleted legitimate pages, too: https://wikemacs.org/wiki/Special:Log
I'd try to reach him on Twitter and mention it.

thanks, hope the site will resurrect.

Emacs Wiki has a page with links to such reference sheets: [Category Reference Sheet](https://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/CategoryReferenceSheet).
And anyone can update that page - add to the list etc. (I just added a link there to the WayBack URL.)

Thankfully this extension works, the spam stopped.

I put it back :) https://wikemacs.org/wiki/Emacs_Lisp_Cheat_Sheet
@all lispers: I love Wikemacs, this page helped me a lot too. I love how the content is structured, how we can put images, how we can discuss *on another page*. Sometimes an "awesome page" on GitHub is more appropriate, but sometimes, like this page here, should be on a wiki. I still visit my favourite pages, and I send some edits from time to time. You are more than welcome to create an account (needs a human approval) and help. You can subscribe to the RSS feed to watch the creation of new users and double-check the last edits.
I still often refer to the Dired page: https://wikemacs.org/wiki/Dired (see the list of related packages? Very handy to have all that information at a glance)
pps: we had a wave of spam a few years ago, Wikemacs' maintainer installed an extension that works, it stopped.
