I have used this vim plugin before https://github.com/ntpeters/vim-better-whitespace and I'd love to have the same behavior on emacs.
I know there is the [whitespace-cleanup-mode](https://github.com/purcell/whitespace-cleanup-mode) which does a okay job with the option to only do cleanup when the file was already clean, but i would like to go further and only do whitespace cleanup on the lines i have modified.
anyone would know how to replicate this feature?

See [lewang/ws-butler](https://github.com/lewang/ws-butler).
Unobtrusively trim extraneous white-space *ONLY* in lines edited.
Trimming only happens when saving.
It doesn't highlight trailing whitespace though.

Emacs has a built in `whitespace-mode` that will highlight trailing whitespace.

gets me thinking if there's this option for other formatters (black, prettier) to only pretty print regions that have been modified (simplyfing versionning)
