Emacs noob here. How do I get redo functionality in evil mode? When I hit C-r, I see "customize 'evil-undo-system' for redo functionality", but I have no Idea what that means or how to do it. I assume there's some line I should add in my .emacs file?

I tried googling it, but I don't know the right terms for anything, so I couldn't figure it out. Thanks for your help.

Interesting. What did you search (you should always include this in your post)? Searching for "Emacs customization" turns up several beginner friendly tutorials such as: https://medium.com/@thomy/basic-initial-emacs-customization-d33ed7361835

`M-x describe-variable` for `evil-undo-system` should have some explanation. If you’re running emacs v28 or newer you can add this line and be done: `(evil-set-undo-system 'undo-redo)`

Emacs before version 28 did not have an explicit "redo" command. Instead, one would just undo a change made by the `undo` command. There are packages that were written to add an explicit redo command, such as Undo Fu (https://gitlab.com/ideasman42/emacs-undo-fu) and Undo Tree (https://www.dr-qubit.org/undo-tree.html). Again, these packages are not needed in Emacs 28. That variable you found tells Evil which feature/package you want to use for an explicit `redo` command. For example, on Emacs 27, you could install Undo Fu and then customize that variable to tell Evil to use Undo Fu's `redo` command.

Thank you! I'm running emacs 29, and this worked perfectly.
