wolfakix · 2022-02-17 19:35
i have seen a lot of people complaining about the slow startup times and file opening speeds on macos and i cant find a solution to that

Is this out of the box behavior?
wolfakix · 2022-02-17 20:10
yes and i found out that i wasnt using the emacsclient correctly, now it has the speed of vim

Glad you figured out your issue. But there is no slow startup issue on macOS per se, though it may be that an emacs build performs slightly slower on macOS than a similarly configured build on Linux. But on my mac my init time is usually .35 sec or thereabouts for a full emacs (not emacsclient) boot, and this is with lots of packages and a custom theme. My understanding is that doom is configured for a speedy init as well, so if you’re not seeing that there may be some problem with your config.

It's funny, I was told to avoid using emacsclient because it was too "complex" for someone new to emacs. Its not complex at all, and makes a drastic improvement - especially if you're using terminal emacs like myself.

What were you doing wrong and how did you fix it? I think I’m running into a similar issue on macOS.

I had installed the terminal version of emacs and the GUI and when I was starting the emacsclient it was launching the emacsclient of the terminal version, so I just deleted the terminal version
lurbina · 2022-02-18 11:58
How did you delete it? I have the same issue.

Right click the proccess find the folder and delete it or use brew

I'm assuming emacsclient is the terminal version.
