Create a floating window in Emacs. https://lifeofpenguin.blogspot.com/2022/02/floating-window-in-emacs.html

Now? What you call a "floating window" is called a child frame in Emacs, and has been available in Emacs since long time ago.
Term "window" in Emacs is used for something else.

This is actually a "window" in Emacs sense.
arthurno1 · 2022-02-11 14:16
Ok, in that case it sounds interesting. I thought you made an os-window which Emacs already can do. By the way, what is the problem with child frames?
So you split an Emacs window into an additional leaf node? So how does that play with the rest of Emacs window management? For example, when windows are split, resized, etc, with fill-column and text rendering etc? Can you move it around if it's "floating"? What is the use-case for this?
Can you produce a patch so we can test it?

I think the code is available from OPs link (under the image). Following that, I found these:

Just to say: I do agree a patch would be nice. For example, I'm just assuming this is based on master vs emacs-28, etc. some other branch.

You are free to use his own source yourself and report to us how his code works :-).
I know what he has provided, I have seen his blog. There is a reason why I have asked him for a patch.

Yes, an old master full of his other hacks too.

Gosh, thanks.
arthurno1 · 2022-02-12 02:20
What? :)

Don't know you're doing.

I didn't wanted to sound impolite; I answered you in other comment why I asked him for the patch. He is using 1+ year old master, which is full of his personal hacks. First, it is not very useful to me to compile a separate Emacs just to test his idea. If I am gonna test it, I will do it in my current Emacs so I would prefer a patch that works with current master. For the second, he could have introduced whatever patch he wants. I am sure he is polite and great person, but he could as well be working for "Microsoft support in Calcoutta", so there is a security issue as well. So patch is prerfered for many reasons.
He has also not answered my questions on how it works with rest of Emacs display engine, so I don't think it is worth for me to download entire copy of an old Emacs and compile it or refactor out his patch just for the test that might as well show it does not work so well.

Thanks for explaining and sorry for my curt reply.
I haven't done a great deal with C in decades, so it looks like a somewhat steep hill, for me to bite off. Sorry to hear OP isn't responsive to the idea of bringing his work current with the present development branch and doesn't seem excited to patch Emacs, directly.
Perhaps one of these things will change. 🤞🏼

Don't worry; my comment was maybe not so intelligent either. Thought I would be half-joking, but I was perhaps not so clear in my attempt either.
Well, hopefully he will make his work more easily available. It is pitty if community misses his ideas because of such relatively simple to solve issue.
