Emacs logo has disappeared after uninstalling built form source Emacs

Using Manjaro Cinnamon. So a few weeks ago, I built Emacs with support for [background-only transparency](https://www.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/qm3tsv/i_implemented_partial_support_for_background/) (it's awesome btw). The build was a little buggy, but after building, I decided to install it using 'make install' - having followed some comments on this sub and elsewhere that the side-by-side install would work, since the default directory would be my 'local', separate to where Arch puts pacman packages (where my normal Emacs is) - for safety I used the prefix option and called it 'TRANemacs'. But the background-only transparency emacs remained a bit buggy so I decided to uninstall using 'make uninstall'. Upon running my normal emacs, everything seemed to work normally except that the Cinnamon task bar shows an empty icon where the [Emacs logo should be](https://imgur.com/a/3cs3RCn). Further digging shows that emacs has a logo, but emacs-client (which I guess is what gets started) [doesn't](https://imgur.com/a/7Db1L9j). I reinstalled emacs with pacman but there is no change. Further to that, worth noting that it seems like 'make uninstall' did not cleanly remove everything related to TRANemacs, but I don't think the files left behind (e.g. the site-lisp folder) are very important. I'm not great at solving this sort of problem. Might anyone know how can I return the logo to emacs? And how do I prevent multiple emacs installations from clobbering each other in future?

This has nothing to do with emacs, the uninstall probably just erased some image file or symlink that your DE wants. You might have better luck on the Manjaro forums than here. FWIW, Cinnamon probably lets you put custom icons, so if you figure out where the icons are stored (the cinnamon docs should tell you), you should be able to just download the icon from the web and drop it in the right folder.

Thanks for this. I suppose the link to Emacs is how to build from source secure in the knowledge that there's going to be no unwelcome interaction with the existing Emacs. I mentioned building with a custom prefix and using the default locaiton in /local/, but those obviously weren't enough. I read [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/aoxkcs/how_can_emacs_be_compiled_to_run_different/) beforehand. Thanks for the tip on Cinnamon, makes sense obviously. I'll do some digging and may mention it on the Manjaro forums as you say.

Building from source tends to interact with DEs in weird ways, and the uninstall scripts even more so. It's often not really possible to do it in a way that guarantees total separation, unless you put it into a docker container or something.

I solved the issue trivially through Cinnamon's menu settings gui, thank goodness. Thanks for letting me know about unexpected interactions. That's a bummer, it'd be good to know how emacs devs do it. I'll look into docker containers, I've never used one...
