I have just reworked [dired-auto-readme](https://github.com/amno1/dired-auto-readme), fixed some bugs and made it aware of [org-view-mode](https://github.com/amno1/org-view-mode), so now it is possible to see readme files written in org mode without markup in Dired buffers. For example, [here is a screenshot](https://postimg.cc/9zkSbwqY) of org-tree-slide package by T. Ishikawa, cloned from his GitHub repo.

Nice idea.

Any plans to properly package and distribute it?

Not yet, I do have some plans to refactor it further and to test some other ideas. So maybe in some future :).
I don't think it is a well written app yet. It was one of the first things I wrote, when I was not so good with elisp. I am not very good yet, but my understanding is much better now :). For example, I have better understanding of how font-lock works now. Also, error recovery is not so great either.
I have been using it without problems myself for like a year, so it is usable if you are a so-called "enthusiastic user". Also, now with org-view-mode, it works only if I manually evaluate org-view-mode.el. I am not sure why.
