Hi all,
I'm new to mu4e and was wondering if it's possible to view multiple emails at the same time.
Any idea ?
Thanks

Open different buffers, one for each email in different windows

You can create bookmarks to show merged views of folders across accounts
like this:
(mapc
(lambda (bookmark) (add-to-list 'mu4e-bookmarks bookmark))
`( ; create bookmarks to show merged views of folders across accounts:
(,(concat
"m:/email1/INBOX or m:/email2/Inbox or "
"m:/email3/Inbox or m:/email4/Inbox or "
"m:/email5/INBOX or m:/email3/IT Demands")
"All Inboxes" ?i)
(,(concat
"m:/email1/[Gmail]/Sent Mail or m:/email2/Sent "
"m:/email5/[Gmail]/Sent Mail or m:/email3/Sent or"
" m:/email4/Sent") "All Sent" ?s)
(,(concat
"m:/email1/[Gmail]/Drafts or m:/email2/Drafts "
"m:/email5/[Gmail]/Drafts or m:/email3/Drafts or "
"m:/email4/Draft") "All Drafts" ?d)
(,(concat
"m:/email1/[Gmail]/All Mail or m:/email2/Archive"
" m:/email5/[Gmail]/All Mail or m:/email3/Archive"
" or m:/email4/Archive") "All Archives" ?a)
(,(concat
"m:/email1/[Gmail]/Spam or m:/email2/Junk or "
"m:/email5/[Gmail]/Spam or m:/email3/Junk or "
"m:/email4/Bulk Mail") "All Spams" ?p)
(,(concat
"m:/email1/[Gmail]/Trash or m:/email2/Deleted or"
" m:/email5/[Gmail]/Trash or m:/email3/Deleted or"
" m:/email4/Trash") "All Trashes" ?t)))

I think this is related to the way Gnus reuses article buffers, especially in the latest mu4e which uses Gnus article buffers by default. Whenever a message (article) is displayed the existing article buffer is reused rather than a new one being created.
I've tried working around this my marking a message buffer with `gnus-sticky-article`, however I've never managed to get this to work properly. I do wish there was a way to customise this behaviour though as it's something I need to do quite frequently.

Thanks u/thaenalpha, u/byerley2, u/polaris64 for your kind and helpful answers.
u/polaris64 That's exactly the behavior that I'm observing with mu4e v1.6.
Perhaps someone developed a cool workaround workflow for this. but It's indeed quite cumbersome to have to manually do \`clone-buffer\` for each mail I want to keep seeing.
Thanks all :)

Can't you just open one email, rename its buffer, then open another email?
polaris64 · 2022-02-11 17:20
Yes that's the easiest option I've found for times when I need to do it.
