I'm using doom emacs and turned on the indent guides package but it's extremely slow when I scroll in a file. Any way to improve preformance? Or another package that is faster? I feel like this shouldn't hog performance so much since this feature works flawless in IDEs.
Edit: One thing to note, it works well when I scroll up the page, but horrendous when scrolling down

In the [indent guides](https://github.com/zk-phi/indent-guide#comparisons-with-highlight-indentation) github has a comparison with highlight-indentation with this line:
> worse in performance, especially when you open a file that includes very large, deep blocks
maybe it's a package problem, and here a [list of packages](https://github.com/DarthFennec/highlight-indent-guides#alternatives)

I assume that the implementation is via overlays, which do have a noticeable effect when there are a lot of them in a large buffer. As with `display-line-numbers-mode` and `display-fill-column-indicator-mode` this is probably something that should ultimately be implemented down in the C display code.

I'm happy with [https://github.com/DarthFennec/highlight-indent-guides](https://github.com/DarthFennec/highlight-indent-guides) and Emacs 28 (with native comp) but my files are not huge, max 400 lines generally.

https://github.com/skeeto/visual-indentation-mode - works well but is fixed (doesn't read the buffer's indentation).
