Just want to install an old version of emacs on MacOS

I've been at this for an hour-- can't figure it out. I've seen [https://emacsformacosx.com/builds](https://emacsformacosx.com/builds) but this is for the graphical version. \`brew install emacs@25\` doesn't work. Is there a way to get an old terminal version of emacs? EDIT: If anyone sees this later, the solution was that I needed to call a more specific version in my case `MacOS /Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs-x86_64-10_9 -nw` Running on Apple Silicone

Macports or brew and install the toolchains, run the build process? I’ve done it on BSD and Linux a dozen times .. a terminal build should be easy on Mac as well.

oh, just build from source you mean?

Yeah. If you’ve never done it then check for some guides or youtube videos perhaps? If you’re used to building from source it shouldn’t be too bad, though its a little more involved than smaller projects. Terminal based, ignoring all the x11 and gtk etc makes it easier. (Sorry, no time to elaborate.) Worth a shot anyway :)

The emacsformacosx builds will happily run in a terminal. Install it as you'd expect, open a terminal, launch emacs with the -nw flag like this: /Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs -nw I usually run the emacs-mac port, which supports running in a terminal in the exact same way. But did just pull the latest Emacs 25 release to confirm it was fine with that too.

~~I actually had tried this, but it says "This application will not run on your computer. Sorry!"~~ Ah, wait! I needed `➜ MacOS /Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs-x86_64-10_9 -nw`
