Why does org-mode break adaptive-wrap-prefix-mode like this?

This has been bugging me for a long time but for some reason *something* in org-mode causes adaptive-wrap-prefix-mode to not indent broken lines properly. It's very inconsistent too. Does anyone have a lead on this?
