Have you ever had a dream where you weren't in a place walking around? What I mean by this is that you are instead in a different view than that of a person. For example, I had a dream where it was just an isometric videogame. My entire view was filled with it, and I just controlled the character, playing through different levels. I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced dreams like this, as most dreams I read about are just in a first-person view.

Yeah, almost every gamer has had a dream where they were playing a videogame like that. It's weird that none of us imagine us sitting there with a controller. It's just the character in the game world but you still know that you're just playing a game.

>>960 I've had quite a bit of dreams very similar to this. Not recently though, I used to dream like this a lot more frequently in my late teens and early 20s. I've also had dreams that are hard to explain but I'll try. Where I am both myself and controlling a 3rd person view at the same time. Almost as if it were a split consciousness. I've even had a dream where I was over 20+ different beings at the same time. It was a surreal experience to say the least.

>>960 Hmm, I can't recall that happening. Though I do remember a long time ago planning on trying to do something like that the next time I had a lucid dream. >>963 I've kind of had a 3rd person experience. In my dream I got out of bed, went downstairs, went on my computer for a minute and then went back to my bed. Upon looking at my bed I was still in bed. IIRC I didn't have a force though.

I once had a nightmare, I was in front of a TV but the character was in first person and I felt like someone was stabbing my spine.

not sure if it was tetris effect or dream but i had been playing a lot of They are Billions (rts type game) lately before going to sleep, and started seeing the game structures either as I was drifting off to sleep or as a dream just after falling asleep. there was no 'me' as the game doesn't have a character, i just scrolled around the map finding structures and soykaf. just once though. kinda funny to me since it's the first time i've experienced that kind of thing

I've had tons of dreams where I wasn't trapped in traditional first person view. I've had dreams that unfolded like pages of a comic. Dreams that unfolded as if they had been shot and edited for a movie (some of these dreams went as far as having fades to black with titles appearing). >>963 I've never had that but it seems quite interesting. The closest I could say I had from something similar would be dreams in which I realize that I'm actually numerous people at once or that I was also X person all along. But I never actually felt the kind of split in consciousness you describe.
Cereal Killer · 2018-05-06 05:51
It's never consistent enough to say. Sometimes it's a third person view, i'm like a camera watching. In fact more then often. However I can't recall a first person, and when I think to dreams that didn't have that top down third person view they weren't first person either. I was myself in the dream but I don't recall it being as if I was looking through my eyes.

There's the classic experience where you spend all day playing a game, then you dream about playing the game but it's like you're in the game. That's happened to me a few times (minecraft, csgo and yume nikki respectively). But most interesting was one time, I had spent all day working on music in Logic, and then dreamed about being in Logic still producing music in the same way as you dream of being in a game. You know you're not actually there, but you don't see it as a screen it's full immersion. Like that but with a DAW. Sadly I don't remember what the dream music I was making sounded like.

I've had quite a few dreams like this. some were like you said, where a video game fills my entire view, and I'm controlling some kind of video game character. I've also had a few where I was on the internet, but the my view was only the monitor, and I was controlling the mouse. Other times, the dream was playing out like a movie, or sometimes in full anime style.

I've had dreams where I was opening folders and looking through files only there was no "me" in a physical sense or eyes looking at a screen, no hands on a mouse or keyboard. Folders and files were all there was. Not like POV walking through cyberspace or anything like that either, just a typical 2D desktop view. I had been spending a lot of time in front of the screen then, especially right before bed.

I dreamt that everything was black, but it felt like there were walls around me. Then the walls expanded outward slowly and up from the middle came some sort of pillar, higher higher until it froze and cracked, and I had some gut wrenching sinking feeling. Then it was done. I have no idea what it meant.
Lady 3Jane.. · 2018-05-13 03:08
>>960 I've had dreams like this before. Rarely isometric, but sometimes it's straight 2d, like mario or something. Sometimes I'm controlling a character, or sometimes I'm just observing.

Ive had many dreams like this, and relatively few I feel where my perspective actually aligns with that of a normal human. Some of these are 2D, watching from the side as events happen in a flatworld, usually with humans but sometimes plain geometry and sound. Others are pure text, or text overlain with the sound of voices reading. Others are 3d and quite normal, but with a perspective that floats around, as if I were there but unseen, unheard and inactive, though in some there is an entity who I know is representative of myself. Still others I am actually in a body and that body is mine, but the chance to actually feel human in my dreams is rare indeed, and mostly had whilst daydreaming, and falling in and out of sleep, where dreams are simply could have beens, conversations with those in my presence, and I am not sure where one ends and the world starts again.

As strange as it siunds, you're probably just playing too many isometric video games. That kind of thing tends to bleed over into your dreams. The same happens to me, actually. My life is really monotonous, so my dreams are usually about nothing. I just wait until they're over.

I've had dreams that are like movies, in that I don't participate at all. Once the movie was so bad that I was amused by it.
Jane Doe · 2019-07-22 21:00
most of my dreams are extremely abstract and there is no clear "space" or "people"

>>1047 Were you marathoning MST3K before bed?
Zhora · 2019-09-12 18:17
I've had a few dreams where I was a canine being hunted by shadow people through empty, yet well kept neighborhoods. Not a video game dream but different from the norm for sure.

>>960 I've had that vidya type of dream also, but sometimes I also get dreams where I'm just watching a story unfold without me taking part in it
Unknown · 2020-01-09 13:48
>>960 I remember doing that only once. I caught a cold, and I simply couldn't fall asleep, and I was also in a very uncomfortable position because otherwise I wouldn't be able to breathe. However eventually I "fell asleep" but it looked like I was only partially asleep. I couldn't see in the conventional way, I just "saw" everything as a 3d model, however it was more like I "felt" everything. I had, however, somatosensation, so I could actually touch things. I was also lucid, so I was able to control my dream, and eventually I woke up voluntarily with ease, the mere will of wanting to wake up made me wake up, so it was probably very unstable.

I remember dreaming of fuarrrking my girlfriend, but I didn't feel anything like my breasts shaking or that shivering when she gently slid dildo into me.... It rather felt like I was a 3rd person with the view of a 2nd person

Sorta? One dream I had when I was really young, I was in a meadow and began running back to the parking lot (first person), then the camera stopped moving but my body kept running, this time on air as if there was an invisible ground, only a few inches above the real ground.
Lady Jessica · 2021-01-14 13:32
back when overwatch came out and was still a good game i dreamt i was playing it. like, i was using a controller and such but all i could see was the screen and it felt like i was in the game

Sometimes, I have dreams about code I've written during the day, and come up with things I'd have never thought of otherwise. I don't think I have a body or anything in those dreams, there's only the screen and a bunch of thoughts occurring all at once. That's the best description I could come up with. I wish I had something more interesting to share. The idea of another "reality" with zero lasting consequences, and limits on what you can do (and who you can fuarrrk) is amazing.
