Lucid Dreaming Telegram Group
Koos van der Merwe · 2018-02-07 00:50
Hey guys. I recently remembered that this board exists. ...Or, actually, I recently remembered Lainchan exists in general. There was a Lainchan general Telegram group that I was in a while ago that actually felt pretty cozy, but I dunno where it went.
Making some mental connections, I felt it would be a good idea to share with you all a Telegram group I and my tulpa own which centers around lucid dreaming, sleep, cognitive science, consciousness, mental health, and other brain-related phenomena.
If you don't know what Telegram is, here's a quick-ish rundown:
Telegram is a chat app that you have to sign up to using your mobile number (Google Voice and TextNow numbers also work). No one else can see your number unless you explicitly share it with them and you just use it to log in. You can run Telegram in your browser, as a desktop application, or as a mobile app. It's really fast and minimal while also packing a bunch of neat features. One of my personal favorites is the ability to directly reply to a message (it shows which message you're replying to and clicking the message takes you to the message you're referring to – almost like a somewhat more advanced version of an imageboard's quoting). Being able to reply directly in a group chat is really efficient and makes conversations way less confusing when there's a lot going on. Telegram also has markdown like italics and bold. Voice messages and voice calls are also available.
You can sign up for Telegram here: https://web.telegram.org/
Now what makes our chat different than any other lucid dreaming chat? Well, my tulpa and I have made a bot that serves definitions for various lucid dreaming techniques and other related things (Some examples: ADA, WILD, SP). That same bot randomly posts reality checks for chat members to do during the day and also grabs posts from /r/LucidDreaming that mention tulpas or posts from /r/Tulpas that mention lucid dreaming.
If you're into dream interpretations, my tulpa and I do something we call "Dual Dream Interpretations" which is essentially just writing our conversations about everyone's dreams right into the chat. It's a back-and-forth "sports reporter-esque" idea (Note: we only interpret dreams tagged with "#Dream," so if you don't want interpretations you don't get 'em).
Anyway, yep, I hope to see some of y'all there. Dream on!

I think you've got the wrong door boy, the facebook club is two blocks down.
>Google Voice and TextNow numbers also work
You ask me to use some proprietary Google crap to register in your honeypot? I can already post on Lainchan anonymously for free, join IRC or make an account on banter.city Matrix server if I want some pseudonuymous namefagging.
>No one else can see your number
Wrong. Anyone who has privileged access to servers can see your number.
Anyone who has enough spare sim cards can correlate all usernames with numbers by adding them to contacts and revealing telegram users.
>It's really fast and minimal
>Electron app
pick one
>a somewhat more advanced version of an imageboard's quoting
You exactly described every imageboard's message quoting system.
>Telegram also has markdown like italics and bold.
Markdown is cancer. Plus italics and bold have nothing to do with it.
>my tulpa and I
You mean, you and your glitterboy chatroom friends? Tulpas don't exist, go see a shrink, mmkay.
Why do you want us to feed our dreams to centralized messenger without group chat encryption and real-name identification? Is is some MKULTRA kind of crap, first they took our freedom for communication now they want take away our dreams? Like in Minority Report movie?

> You ask me to use some proprietary Google crap to register in your honeypot?
Nah, just felt it's better to use one of those in case people don't have a normal number or don't want to use their normal number. Those are the only two VoIP numbers that work with Telegram, I think. There might be more.
> Wrong. Anyone who has privileged access to servers can see your number.
I doubt any human actually looks at the numbers. But sure, if you're super privacy centric then I guess you can find any reason to not use it.
> Anyone who has enough spare sim cards can correlate all usernames with numbers by adding them to contacts and revealing telegram users.
Okay, sure. If you add every number randomly. Though, that would be pretty much impossible to target a specific user with.
> Electron app
Neither Telegram Desktop, Android, or iOS are Electron apps.
> You exactly described every imageboard's message quoting system.
That's why I said somewhat more advanced. It has a tiny little preview of the message you're quoting. I think it's neat, since there's no other chat app that does that (maybe WhatsApp, but that thing doesn't even have desktop support and the clients aren't open source at all [but yeah, Telegram's server side code isn't open]).
> Markdown is cancer. Plus italics and bold have nothing to do with it.
I like markdown. Italicizing and bolding stuff helps explain and makes points for me.
> Why do you want us to feed our dreams to centralized messenger without group chat encryption and real-name identification?
You don't need to use your real name, but why... Because I like reading people's dreams and I like talking about brain stuff. Simple. But now that I remember this board exists I guess I can do all that here.
Worth a shot to see if anyone join from here, but if no one does that's cool too.

Why instead of making a IRC/XMPP/Matrix channel on one of billion free servers available, or better, hosting your own, you want us to join some proprietary datamining echochamber? Is there any reason other than "uh I'm lazy or too dumb to set up my IRC channel". If you're already that low-effort, then maybe you should go be normal user somewhere else? Really, why should I bother getting a fake number, or others less informed lains risk using their real phone number-tied identities just because you yourself is technologically inept to a degree of inability to use software that respects both your and our freedoms?

I just like all the features Telegram offers. It's pretty much everything I've wanted in a messaging app. I'm not totally hardcore into freedoms, but I'm glad that at least Telegram's clients are open source (The server side code isn't... And they suck at updating the Android client's code... Which makes it technically not complient with the GPL).
I like being able to search through old messages with keywords, have easy access to the shared media and files in any chat, stop typing a message at any time and have it saved as a draft automatically, have messages stored or synced so I can access them on multiple devices, send voice/video messages easily, refer to/quote any old message in a chat so that a simple click takes whoever I'm talking to straight back to the message I'm referring to, and a bunch of other stuff. I haven't looked at XMPP or Matrix, but if those are capable of things like that then maybe I'll use them.

matrix has everything telegram has, but it's not soykaf.

So, we got some pretty neat people from here, but this post isn't a totally useless bump.
We've upgraded the bot. It's essentially a virtual pet that the whole chat takes care of by feeding dreams. It can get hungry, bored, sick, and sad. It gains affection for people based on how they interact with it.
It's not mandatory to interact with it, however. You can go practically unnoticed by it as long as you don't talk to it.
But yeah, we're pretty proud of it. It's the closest thing to a kid that my tulpa and I have.

I wrote a super long post going in detail about the group and bot.
https://www.reddit.com/r/LucidDreaming/comments/90s2qy/telegram_dreaming_group_shared_dream_journal/
But, like, that barely got any attention. I guess it's because people don't want to join a group and would rather just have a boring RC bot and normal dream journal?
'Cause look how much attention this dude's post got:
https://www.reddit.com/r/LucidDreaming/comments/92gogn/i_made_a_telegram_bot_to_help_you_induce_lucid/
Though, our bot has lucid dreaming definitions as well as CANWILD mode (it wakes you up while you're in REM sleep) that you can use in a direct message without joining the group.
Oh, by the way, we've made the bot is fully GDPR compliant, too.
Still... It seems like the more effort we put onto it, the less popular it is. Though, looking back, the chat definitely is more active than it ever was before the bot. Maybe my sense of success on the bot just keeps pushing up.
Anyway, I think we're done improving it. I mean, the more complex parts of it. We'll still add/fix small unnoticeable things here and there.
Anamika · 2018-07-28 14:39
Still, like, c'mon, the chat can't even keep the damn bot alive.
Hagbard Celine · 2018-07-28 15:40

You're probably not going to have much luck here

You'd be incorrect. A large majority of Lains use telegram. If you go and search lainchan general into telegram you get chats with 80 plus users.

Those are underage zoomers, not lains.
Sega for necrobumping a low-quality thread
