anesthesia

I recently had a surgery and they did me general anesthesia. It was so fuarrrking weird and surreal and I want to share my experience. In a vein on my hand I got an injection of the milky-looking propofol, within a couple seconds I felt something ascending in two veins back in my throat and then quickly I had no idea how I lost consciousness or anything. It wasn't really like sleep and I didn't feel time pass. Right when the surgery ended I found them putting in me some laughing gas which was tasting sweet and sent me back from the clinic. I realized how fuarrrking vulnerable and helpless I was at that moment and anesthesia became almost like a nightmare to me. I don't even understand well what consciousness is. Yes they monitored everything but it just feels like your whole life is dependent on some stranger doctors and nurses' hands. The greenish blue clothing they forced me to wear made it even worse. Has any lain gone through this or overcame this fear? Or anything else to just understand what all of this soykaf is?

>>6618 The idea of this terrifies me as well fren. I have a lot of gripes with the practices of modern medicine.

I went under full anesthesia before and I found it very pleasant. I had something hooked up to me by IV i assume propofol also was used on me and that felt like I was surrounded by adorable kitties. None of it was scary to me because I felt so relaxed by whatever drug i was given. My surgery was more minor so that might be why i wasnt worried despite general anxiety problems. I remember everything before surgery, I dont really have memory of things after surgery well but I do remember functioning normally. Supposedly people with higher IQs function more normally when under influence of anesthesia.

it is terrifying. i know, i have trust issues, too. my heart beats out of my chest when a doctor hints at possibly putting a chemical near me. my trick is remember what happens to them if you arrive stable and something happens to you. they have a lot riding on making sure your family don't have reasons to sue. because of that, DO NOT hint that you wouldn't be missed, and DO NOT become an organ donor until you're ready to jack up your odds of a hospital related fatality. more importantly, remember people become doctors because they want to help. if they just wanted a paycheck, there are better routes to a comparable salary.

>>6627 It's better to have surgery on an earlier position in a surgeon's shift rather than later. More likelihood of things going well.

>>6627 why do you spend time near doctors
Nobody important · 2023-12-26 09:01
>>6627 Depends on where you live. In some countries, medical doctors have by far the highest average salaries. >>6618 I have had general anesthesia as a kid. Didn't even feel the needle on my arm. Blacked out instantly and woke up without any sense of time loss in the recovery room.

>>6618 I remember the bed being wheeled back to the OR, but not being administered the anesthesia. I woke up back in the patient room, I couldn't breathe, something was blocking my throat. I coughed really hard and blood came out all over my chest. Every couple minutes I would feel the need to cough again. They handed me 2 cups and I filled those up with blood too. They didn't know what caused it, said it was possible the tube down my throat scratched or cut me. I did smoke a cigarette early, early that morning before going into surgery which is a big problem apparently, maybe that had something to do with it. Has any one had an experience like that with anesthesia? It made me realize any time you go under could be the last time.

I mean, you really have to force a perverted narration of these events to make you build a phobia. Try meditation and change your overall thinking mechanism because this kind of reasoning may lead you to unpleasant paths.

I had general anesthesia when i was a little kid, 6 y.o.. I wasn't afraid at all, i knew they are very smart and very kind doctors, who wouldn't do anything bad. Nowadays i don't trust a soul and i would probably get a panic attack from the thought of having to be unconscious in the presence of strangers, my heart rate elevated from just typing this.

>>6638 obviously being helpless to the degree you get under general anesthesia should be terrifying. If I'm asleep I might be weak/vulnerable but if someone even walks into my bedroom I'm usually going to get up decently quick. Its not like they could barge in, lights fully on fully bright and start slicing me open without even rousing me. Under anesthetics they can.

Old post I dont know why it was bumped but you can't go a day without having to trust strangers because you live in a society not as some hermit in the mountains with nothing but things you made yourself.

Depending on the context, if you didn't want it, you could just say no.
