Dream analysis is still active today and has been for thousands of year amongst many cultures, considering the fact that most of psychology is bullshit and there is still to this day a lot of practices that are widely considered as barbaric.
Psychiatry nowadays basically boils down to how many meds does a patient need to take to be dizzy and obedient.
Dreaming is still the most reliable way to access the subconscious.
So I guess it's more like the butcher being the predecessor to the slaughterhouse.
