How to stop remembering dreams?
Crash Override · 2021-10-13 12:12
First of all, I want to say that this is my first post here, please don't be harsh on me. Also, this post is sort of a rant, so stick with me.
Lately, I've been vividly recording all my dreams. When I dream, I feel like I am in a whole new world, a world where I'm not depressed, a world where my friends love me.
My past 4/5 dreams are fully connected, and all of them included my ex partner. We had a pretty complicated situation, and I don't want to think about it.
I simply won't ever get over it, even thinking about our relationship makes me want to cry. All my dreams include past memories, I always wake up begging to get back to this world.
Lains, what should I do? Can I somehow stop dreaming? I don't want to remember it. If I don't remember, it didn't happen.

Weed and booze is what i hear from a lot of people.
I never remember my dreams anyway so i cant speak first hand.
Otacon · 2021-10-14 14:38
similarly to >>4985 I haven't been able to remember my dreams in years. I generally don't get more than about 6 hours of sleep per night, so maybe try that?

I have a problem with night walking and having nightmares while night walking.
something that helped me cure the anxiety and sleep very deep is camomile tea before I go to sleep. could work for you.

Maybe where you live.
Also fuarrrk the law, rules are there to be broken.

the hard part is getting the stuff that is decent. Especially if you don't live near the countries that produce and distribute it, like asia.
>rules are there to be broken
While i agree with you, it would definitely help if you could backup your actions with force. either your own or someone else's

You need to know that your dreams are indicative of your psyche. These dreams can mean that you can't let go of your past relationship, and the solution is to let go. The only way through your breakup is the acceptance of it, lainon. Practice some mindfulness and love yourself. Face those dreams head on.

>I simply won't ever get over it, even thinking about our relationship makes me want to cry
You have to get THROUGH it, and untangle the fuarrrkup that you or her were in the past
Continue to think about until you figure out how to avoid similar mistakes in the future
Then you will stop crying when you think about it

And be mindful of whether you are actually THINKING about it
Or if you are just mentally beating yourself up, fruitlessly travelling the same mental rut you've been in since the breakup....

i sleep with headphones on in front of my laptop normally watching some dubbed anime
whenever I happen to sleep it is just blank, no dreams no memories, the downside is insomnia dual to the external stimulation

Yeah you can delete them with weed but over the years I've noticed the effects sort of wane, in some people at least. I started waking up in the middle of the night to get more high to finish my sleep, my friend just kind of dreams although really wewird and disconnected dreams so maybe you'd like that.
I kind of tapered off recently because even my sleep was getting fuarrrked along side some other things.
Still it's a much better and safer stopgap measure than alcohol.

I've bought a bigger pillow for my big body + I got blackout curtains + I fixed a faulty window for better noise isolation + I have a door blocker
My sleep quality got better to the point I don't get to see dreams often (and, AFAIK, dreams are being generated during REM sleep so I legit don't remember my dreams)

Oddly enough, it's vice versa for me. I suppose it's individual.
After some cans of beer, I had a dream (very lousy, a random mish-mash of nothing special - but I remeber going through some silly mish-mash of a dream anyway) - first in long time.

Also, if you think about it enough your brain will become bored and try moving somewhere else

Try to emotionally work it through, and then you won't dream about your ex-partner anymore. Time heals all wounds.
You can also read a book about what Jung has to say about dreams.

It's been years and I'm surprised no one here said lucid dreaming. Was that too obvious or is there a catch?

well , even in your writing you avoid to think about the struggle , so brain needs somewhere to release the tension and its in your sleep, the thing you can do is to actually be honest and logically think about them or even write them in a piece of paper , actuall think about it and ask why you feel that and be honest and direct to yourself , its a tension built up within you so just release it , not wanting to think about it just ends up thinking more about it
