Exploding Head Syndrome

Shogun · 2021-07-07 18:06
Does anyone wake up due to an exploding head syndrome? it's like a dream becomes real for a second and your brain makes you think you can actually hear something with your ears, not just in your head. indiscernible from reality. It happens around the same time you might jerk awake from the sensation of falling. It can be very loud and I usually get it in the form of screams of murder or pure fear.

>>4761 I often have it while falling asleep, probably every second night. I mostly get: - a strange sound (beep, trumpet, electronic sounds, sometimes speech or shouting, undefined sounds) - jumping - hitting - receiving a hit or a shot - leading a discussion (which often doesn't make any sense) - falling (rarely) This occurs when I'm about to lose consciousness, it wakes me up, I ignore it and get back to falling asleep. The "dreams" are short 1-4 second scenes. When I'm about to get a hit in the scene my muscles tighten as if I was to get the hit in real life, then I wake up. When I want to jump, my legs move. I had the feeling of falling when I was a kid but I don't get it recently. It's fun and I got used to it.

sometimes when im falling asleep i think about things that start off making sense, then devolve into not making sense at all (but my brain thinks it still does), then i snap out of it and go "hang on none of this soykaf makes any kind of sense" and a lot of the time completely forget what i was even trying to convey

>>4761 Rarely, but has already happened to me. More specifically right before falling asleep, so I don't think it counts as awakening. In a fraction of a second my audition just became better and better until even the slightest noise in the silent night was, quite literally, deafening. I don't think I've ever heard something as loud as that in meatspace, and it greatly scared me.

I never realized this was be considered a thing, but yeah. I remember in high school once I woke up from a half-dream where I thought I was getting hit the head with a baseball. It jerked me up really hard.

I get this quite often, always when I'm almost asleep. Feels like I'm falling very rapidly very suddenly and i snap back into full awakeness. I also have a really strange thing where if i stay in bed after waking up and i go from sleep to awake a few times or so (I don't know how many) i will get into this sort of weird thing where it feels like not my head but my actual thoughts and mind is shaking/beating. I am awake but not fully conscious so i remember it at least. I have never tried to focus my mind when it happens but if i remember it i will do it next time, been a while since it happened last though.

Sometimes when I'm just about to fall asleep, I heard a loud buzzing sound that wakes me up. It only lasts under a second.

>>4769 the last thing you mentioned is similar to something I experience. Well, different, but at least it happens within the same time / conditions. Instead of shaking/beating I can hear my own thoughts. I might be having a fake conversation with someone or imagining an action and I can hear the persons voice, or hear the action such as the fizz from opening a can. All very similar to exploding head but less loud although just as "real".

>>4765 >>4763 Same soykaf. Like exploding or something.
Splicer · 2021-07-14 23:12
>>4763 For me I often hear music that seems to evolve out of my thoughts. It becomes very clear and hi-fi the moment before I wake up.
Sabo Engle · 2021-07-15 09:15
No. Instead I hallucinate someone calling for me.

>>4786 Sounds cool. My brain often turns on the radio when I undersleep. I wish I could record the music my brain produces.

yeah it usually feels like a WHAM to me. like I just got thrown to the ground or hit the ground. On weed id get something though both waking and asleep and when asleep itd wake me up. Id hear this like echoing fading electronic "duh" sound like a "duh duh duh" and see a cartoon version of someones head I know exploding and then a scream that also sounded electronically distorted and distant that would build up like "eeeeaaaaaRRRRGGRGGRGH". Aside from that pure silence. When I was awake it would be more of a "minds eye" type thing. but not an active imagining. Asleep idbe jolted up towards the end of the scream as it got too intense.
